Kokikai Aikido Avalon Beach

Kokikai Aikido
  • Keep One Point
  • Relax Progressively
  • Correct Posture
  • Positive Mind

Aikido means "The Way to Harmony of the Spirit".

Aikido is a Japanese martial art, developed in the twentieth century for self-defense and spiritual training. Considered one of the most elegant and sophisticated of the martial arts, aikido offers a greater degree of subtlety than many comparable martial disciplines. A person who studies and practices aikido correctly desires to defend themselves without harming their opponent. To achieve and maintain this attitude, one must achieve a very high level of integration of mind and body.

About Us

Our dojo trains in the Kokikai Aikido tradition. We train in order to deal with multiple type of attacks, with weapons and without, one attacker and multiple attackers. It is for all people regardless of size, age, or gender.

Current Kokikai Aikido practitioners range in age from 5 to 75. All are welcome.

Kokikai Aikido 光気会

Koikikai Aikido is a style of Aikido founded by Shuji Maruyama Sensei. The name Kokikai means "school of radiant ki". Ki can be described as a person's essential inner energy.

Shuji Maruyama Sensei

The Kokikai style emphasizes natural movement, ki development, relaxation, good posture and mind-body coordination. It focuses on making techniques effective while using minimal physical effort: in other words, "minimum effort for maximum effect."

Shuji Maruyama Sensei continues to develop Kokikai Aikido - it is a fluid sytle with no set textbook way of performing any technique.
